Any guesses on what kind of '72 Charger it will be when it crosses the Mecum block in 2 years.
72 Rallye 340-4 Speed.

I bought a 71 383 Charger when i was 8, Parted it out 2, 3 years ago got my 400 dollars i paid for it back out of it :)

I'd buy that! Like friggin' E-bodies, there were plenty of 440 and 383 cars built. I'd have to say that there are MORE today than Chrysler actually made! Yet, some yahoo is going to buy this, pull a perfectly good 440 from a nice C-body, and make yet another "tribute" '72 440 car. Imagine what the original owner was thinking when he was checking off the order form..."Yeah, let's see. Winchester Gray, 225, auto, power steering, heater...OK, I'm done. Order it!"

Someone desperately wanted a charger but couldn't really afford it so they ordered with the bare minimum.....I wonder how many months you could take the loan out for in 72. Gotta respect the tenacity if that was the case.

36.
And there were no such things as leasing...

Now, the dealers are writing 84 month sub prime loans to people wih only a welfare income.
Another banking apocalypse coming soon.

I like it too! It has nice parallel gaps on the panels and it looks really solid.
I owned a '65 Dodge van years ago which had a single barrel slant six in it. It progressed to a two barrel with headers and eventually a 318/727 combination with the factory dash mount shifter from a wrecked camper. I even built a single 2.5" stainless exhaust system on it.
The things we done when younger with too much time and money at our disposal :)

On a guess, I would say its more likely the "draw" car they put in their ads "buy this for just"... IDK how many bottom price buyers would be looking to wait on an order. I am all speculation on this though...

I'd love to do that car up as it came from the factory.

You don't see a lot of 72 Chargers... and you never see a slant powered, no option, Charger.

There was a guy trying to sell one here in Orlando 6 months or so ago. The car had 6 with 3 on tree... really unusual for those. But the flipper wanted way too much and there wasn't a solid panel on the whole car. He had convinced himself the car was place in an airport as a promotional gimmick and that in his mind made it a factory show car. Weird car, had all the exterior stripes and bolt on crap.

Plus, Winchester Gray is an amazing color on these! Granted, the $2,500 Newport would be a far better bargain, but that Charger has that "no option" vibe with it, and it's not Vomit Green or Piss Yellow, either!

When the oil boom went bust a few months ago, there were a LOT of people trying to bail on $700 - $1,000/month car & truck payments locally. They were desperate for dealers to buy them back. And, no one in their right minds is gonna take over payments that ridiculous.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this.

A look at the build sheet and/or the window sticker and the fender tag would tell, either way.

I have known people order stripper cars because they wanted the car that way. Remember, power accessories such as windows, locks, along with power brakes, power steering; along with comfort amenities like air conditioning and AM/FM stereo were ALL relative rarities even in the early '70s.

My son's '76 Buick Skylark coupe was ordered with the Olds 260 V8, auto, PS, PDB, AM, heater, cloth interior and tilt column. That was all.

You're decode looks right to me but what on this car would justify a H High Price Class? Were all Charger's considered High Price Class?

Looks like a pretty decent car for the money, rock solid. I'm surprised it doesn't have 3 pedals.
