Pretty cool......but I'll never have a need for one.

This tester appears to be for the Auto temp 1 system, but the problem is that even if you do find the problem with its help, there is virtually nothing available to replace the bad stuff, which is usually the control unit in the passenger kick panel area.

Didn't Chrysler supply Airtemp A/C or at least components to Mercedes late 70's? There was a temp control valve that is supposed to be made from unobtanium that is actually as close as your MB dealer if you want to pay the $$$$ price.

That is only true for the Autotemp II system, not Autotemp I. The controller is available from Performance Analysis Company. I have one in my Imperial and it works great. Mercedes used the Chrysler patent to use this system in their cars, but they upgraded the housing for the controller to aluminum rather than the cheap bakelite that Chrysler used, and which only lasted about 2 years before cracking and leaking.

Steve, am I correct in saying that controller was used only in the 73 and earlier version of ATC II?

Stan, all I can say for sure is that the controller Performance Analysis sells that I am familiar with fits for sure the 1971-73 models. I have never owned a Formal, so I really don't know if those units were any different. You might want to call Performance Analysis and discuss it with them. Last time I talked with them, about 5 yearsa ago when I bought mine, they were very helpful and had a great attitude. I spoke with George Murphy there: Performance Analysis | Climate Control | Diaphragms | Blower Motors | Pushbutton Panels | Vacuum Door Locks | Autotemp | Cruise Control | Engine Oil Analysis | Mercedes-Benz Parts | Mercedes-Benz Club of America | Oak Ridge | Car Care
