I have the pedal assy out so as to McGuyver some linkage with the correct amount of travel for the hydraulic clutch master mounted on the firewall.

The existing OC spring which is anchored between the pedal lever about halfway down and a pin at the top of the pedal assembly, apparently helps overcome some of the pedal pressure.

Can anyone with experience in the mechanical to hydraulic retrofit tell me if this spring is still needed with a Hydraulic TO bearing setup? I can work around it but asking because it's kind of in the way right now.

Don't quote me on it, but I think the spring is only needed for mechanical linkage to a borg and beck style clutch. If it is a diapragm style it is not needed.

i installed a hydraulic to bearing setup when i built my 35 plymouth 340 4 speed a few years back. i just eliminated the original heavy spring and when i had all the linkage finished i just installed a smaller weaker spring just to keep the pedal up..works flawlessly. with a hydraulic setup that big heavy spring is not needed.

No over-center clutch pedal return spring should be used. Like they said, the original throwout bearing fork return spring is fine.

Be careful that spring is a monster, wear safety glasses, and gloves if it gets away from you it will bite.

LOL - Yah. That always should be mentioned when talking about those. Damn, they have kick in them.

What's worse than removing a clutch OC spring?
Putting one back on.

Ya good to know. Luckily the pedals were in the vice when it let go so when the spring retracted the top pin flew out and hit the wall. It's easy to put back on when the assembly is out because you can swing the clutch pedal all the way back. Wouldn't want to do it in the car when the pedal stops at the floor.
