Anyone ever get any of these plain steelies from Coker? I've heard horror stories about Wheel Vintiques and was wondering what the best alternative is if I can't find any good junkyard ones...

Does Coker make their own or are these resold from someone else like WV?

BTW I'm looking for 15x6-7, 4.5" large bolt pattern, 4-4.5" backspace for '68 Fury.

Thanks
Chris

Absolutely! But I haven't found any good old ones around for $10-30, which is what I was originally banking on. So I may have to get some of these new ones. And I'll just have dog dishes on, so they'll be partly showing, so it wouldn't be as soul-crushing as spending the money and having them totally hidden.

This will have to wait some time anyway since I'm close to tapped out on my rehab fund and I still need brakes.... just want to have a good idea of the next step when I have a few bucks available.

No, no. Dog dishes deserve new wheels like that. I would spend that to get that perfect wheel/tire look.
Why we get hung up on it is nuts when you think about but that's the way it is on C-bodies.

Find a good set of used 15" steel wheels. Get them sandblasted and powder coated. You could prob do that for about 100 a wheel, including buying the used ones. You would know what quality the wheels are. There's a reason why the older wheels lasted. Don't worry about light surface rust that can all be taken care of. Just look at the bead make sure there's no curb rash there. Also look at the lugnut mounting area make sure it's not rounded out from being over-tightened, and wrong lug nuts. Mopar's into the 80's still used the 15" steel 5x4 1/2" Think Diplomat, aspen, Trucks, Vans ect. If you don't know of a powder coater I have one locally, They do great work for a great price. They also sandblast in house.

And he can spend $110 for a wheel that is ready to go, versus acquiring four wheels that may not be true (there's more bent wheels out there than you may realize!). I bought four new steelies for my '41 Plymouth pickup that I sold a couple of years back. Paid $300 for the four, and had them painted for another $240. So, $540 total for brand new, painted steelies. Or, I could've wasted time searching the boneyards for four matching wheels, hope they were were not bent, spend $30 - $40 each ($160), spend another $100 per wheel to get them blasted and powder-coated ($400), plus time, effort and fuel costs. So now I have $560+ in old wheels that have been fatigued or have hidden problems I may not know about until I get tires on them and drive them...OR I can have four wheels I know match up, brand new, delivered to my door, and I spend another $240 getting them painted, for a total of $540 and have them right now. Too easy.

I have been running good used wheels for years. Yes it is something to be mindful of a bent wheel. I wouldn't pull one off a car, or truck that had a snapped axle. There's enough salvage yards in Texas that you could find steel wheels that are clean for cheap. Prob 15-35 a piece. I don't know about Austin,Tx.......... But down here you could hit 5-6 salvage yards on a Saturday and find what you need for less than 80 for 4 wheels.

That's what I had expected but have not been able to find good ones yet. San Antonio must have a lot better selection of yards.
