console shift linkage - different 904 from 727 ?

im asking for a friend who wants to convert his 71 fury to console shift;
is the linkage from the trans to shifter the same on 727 as 904 equipped cars ?
he is gathering parts at the moment and can get the linkage from a 318 904 car, his car has a 727.......
