Here's the problem... With the top up on my 70 300 vert, there's a helluva blind spot on the right side. I have some neck "issues" that only let me turn my head 45 degrees right. It makes for a hard lane change from left to right lane.

I keep saying "I ought to figure out a better mirror". Well..... I almost hit a speeding ricer this afternoon. In my defense, two of these assclowns were probably over 80 on a 45 MPH city street. I saw the first one... He was much faster... I didn't see the second one as I was changing lanes. I had checked mirrors... glanced over my shoulder etc. He was in the blind spot though and I never saw him.

It would have not been pretty.... And it doesn't matter who's more at fault... I didn't see him.

So... anyone ever fitted a convex mirror to the round outside mirror? I could use a smaller stick on type, but it would look a little funny because I haven't found one that is the same size as the mirror. I actually was even thinking of cutting a new mirror into a round shape.

Any good ideas?

not much help but it seems that dump trucks and school buses have larger convex mirrors.

You would have just had to hose the ricer off of your 300 when you got home.
You might check with an automotive glass shop to see if they could cut you a mirror.

On Dave's behalf, what was the top doing up???

I was expecting that reply from Dave. You beat him to it. LOL.

It's been very hot and humid here the past couple days. Not really great convertible weather, especially when driving slow through Syracuse city streets.

I'm sorry, John. . . Looks like yer gonna hafta get rid of that raggedy convertible and buy one of those "cube" cars. I'd be happy to take the '70 off yer hands. . .:poke:

On my Monaco with the wide back pillar I keep the right side mirror pointed at the blind spot exclusively. That way I check the wind shield mirror for behind and glance to the side to cover everything.

The only time I trust a mirror is when I don't have a choice like on a truck with a load or box.

Even my truck with the large mirrors I still look over my shoulder.

Neither my Polara or my Barracuda have right side mirrors and I don't miss them.

When I drive newer cars (haven't owned one in 10 years) with them I only use them to keep an eye on traffic.

There is no replacement for checking blind-spots, the Sebring convertible that I had the blind-spot was a little large but looking with a definitive head bob would cover it.

Bottom line is I never chose to make a lane change into a lane I know isn't clear to start with, but still check.

I'm not sure what you limitations are but I find my self sitting up and rotating my shoulders when I check.

I think this is the one I had on my passenger side mirror, I mounted it on the lower portion of the mirror

Alan, you need to reread my post. I did look over my shoulder. I learned to do that when I learned to drive back in 1970.

The blind spot in my car is much larger than your Polara, Barracuda or even the Sebring vert. Small rear window and tiny quarter windows too.

I drive between 40-50 k miles each year in all sorts of conditions. 5k miles on my Chrysler too... BTW, Syracuse weather means that is only 6-7 months out of the year for the Chrysler. I have very many miles in cargo vans and trucks that depend on mirrors completely. I did a lot of miles in cars before the right convex mirror was around too.

Your post is well meaning, and I take it as that.... I can drive just fine, thank you. In this case, the speeding ricers had started passing on the shoulder and when the road widened to two lanes, they were already in the right lane. Tough to see no matter what. A convex mirror would give me a needed edge... both because of the car and me.

A few years ago there was a wide interior rear view mirror that was approx. 36" wide and was mounted on/near top of the windshield. Perhaps a google search would be worth a try if something like that would interest you.

Yes, they called them "Wink" mirrors. A friend used them on his cars. I drove his Rampage to Englishtown and the thing drove me nuts. I never knew which mirror to look at. He was used to it and loved it.

Hey John. I got these for the Admiral when towing the camper...... Might help you out a little....... :poke:

I had a pair of those! I used to use them when I was using C-bodies for tow cars back in the seventies.

That would work... It would be fugly, but it would work. LOL!!

try searching wal-marts website. they are come up as either convex or blind spot mirrors. they seem to have quite a selection.
