Craigslist car show rant

50/50, I'm sure C/L isn't the only place he posted this ad. I admire the Dad for mentoring his son into the classic car world. He'll definitely have a wrench set under the Christmas tree. I, on the other hand, would of had a few words with this POS on the spot.

that could go either way - i've seen people leaning on cars, etc, opening stuff, and if it was my car i'd yell too, so tough to take a side w/o knowing exactly what was going on. i like the idea of taking my boys to the car shows too, but i am very cautious when they are there. Perhaps the car's owner is a jerk, or perhaps he just had a hook in his mouth that day.

just my .02

Don't get me wrong...there's a difference from looking at a car and touching or doing crazy stuff like opening doors, etc. If the guy with the kid was respectful and didn't violate the don't touch rule...then the car owner was a jerk. If it was the other way and they were climbing, touching, opening things up...then the Dad was wrong.

At one of our local shows, there's an attention ***** who brings his new Viper (which I don't believe should be there in the first place).

He takes up 4 spaces neatly corralled in by his Corvette (more cars I don't believe should be there) buddies. If you enter that space, the alarm system goes nuts and blares out "Step away from the car..."

My friends have to pin me to the ground to keep me from going over there to punch him in the face and keying his Viper.

I'm with you...most people who have Vipers are not the kind I like hanging with either. Usually very snobish.

Yeah, I agree, without being there, we don't know what he or his son was doing and we don't know what the car owner said or did. Can't help but notice that he said his car is worth more and keeps refering to the other guy's car as a POS. Maybe that says something maybe it doesn't.

I agree. We would have to be there to see what really went down.

Stan you know better... Pay a kid a couple of bucks to keep going by the car setting the alarm off. Makes sure he keeps doing it until the alarm doesn't go off any more. Hopefully someone at the show will have jumper cables for him before he leaves.

OR

Get the organizers to give him an award for most annoying alarm each and every gathering.

Sometimes I miss the obvious.
DUH!!!
Thanks for the tip and the dope slap.

You'll never guess who I ran into at the Roseville Mopar show yesterday! The Imperial owner that the rant was aimed at and his story is one that he told without prompting. In fact I wasn't even thinking about it until he brought it up. First off his car is a very nice survivor right down to its all original paint which is fairing better then mine. Second he seemed to be a nice guy with a lot of pride in his car, understandable! He says that while at a local cruise night he was enjoying a young kid and his father made there way towards his car. The kid was pretty excited to be there and was running around from car to car. When he was running around the back of this '62 he grabbed on to the plastic taillight lens in order to swing around to the side of the car and that's when this guy kind of flew off the handle at him. He said he felt badly immediately afterwards but that he couldn't help but have the reaction that he did. I can see his side very clearly but don't doubt that he could have handled it in a more calm manor. It was purely one of those heat of the moment reactions that everybody handles in there own way. Hopefully the kid will get over his fear and be able to enjoy more shows with his dad and maybe show a little more restraint while around the cars, after all they are not playground equipment!

A 350 lb. fat slop in jeans (like with RIVETS) sat on my hood once.
I went nuts on him and to this day I never regretted it.

Nice Imp. If I was the Dad, rule #1 would be to corral the kid before going to car shows and explain the importance of the don't touch rule over and over until he got it. Otherwise ....no more car shows. I'm sure the kid could grasp that rule pretty easy with a little coaching. I can understand the car owner having his moment. I would of been a little excited too.

Some of my kids were at shows before they could walk. . . . . Do not touch, respect other peoples things.....easy concept. Same thing you do everyday in life not just at a show.

What I have noticed at your town wide shows people have no idea how to act with the"show cars". People of all ages will touch, lean on, get into, open doors, anything they want. These are not car people. You will generally NEVER have a problem at a car event such as Carlisle.
