Just making sure...1968 300 top dash pad is the same as the 67 newport pad isnt it?

No.
They do interchange/will fit but 68 has the federally mandated dashpad that sticks further towards the occupants and has the added matching lower dash padding.
67 dashpad much shorter,FYI,but as I mentioned it will fit.
If "correctness" is not a concern and want a dash pad that is in better shape than yours,put the 67 in,no problem.
A ***** of a job with the dash frame and windshield still in the car. the nuts are facing the cowl--if you can get to them.
Much easier with the glass and dash removed from the car and swap it out on a bench.
More work but saves on using the first aid kit and donations to the swear jar!! .

I never noticed the overhang difference....I found one from a 68 that is in really nice shape..for a decent price. I thought they were the same. Now I know. I can get to the nuts without a problem...now to decide if the year matters to me. mine is in poor shape.
