Hello,

Is there a way to disconnect the key-in buzzer? I know this buzzer is also the hornrelay.
When working on my Newport sometimes I have to let the key in but when opening the doors the sound in driving me crazy..

The quick and dirty way is to find the terminal on the horn relay that feeds the buzzer and bend it flat out of the way or better yet, saw it off.

I thought it's only dirty when it's done right. :weg:

I want to do it the more sophisticated way: cut the wire at the back of the fusebox that feeds the buzzer  But...which one is it?? I've studied the wire diagrams from the FSM but cannot figure it out..

You could check for voltage with a multimeter to identify the wire when the key buzzer activates.

I'll bet that wire returns ground to the relay. Find the one with power and you might cut the power to the horns. So... You would need to check each terminal with the relay out for power or ground change with the key in and out.

I'd still cut the relay terminal though. Cutting the feed wire at the fuse block is probably going to take your horns out. Cutting the feed wire from the column would work, but I'm not a fan of cut wires... One more thing to bite you in the *** somewhere down the road when they short... or you need to troubleshoot a different problem. But that's up to you.

Ive simply bent the prongs so it doesnt make contact...obviously not the correct way but when you cant take that buzzing anymore you use drastic measures

Put a small block of wood between the door and the button on the door jamb and slowly close the door till the buzzer shuts off. Make your repairs and get on with it. That buzzer will save your *** from locking your keys in the car one day

I have a dedicated pc. of wood cut for ea. of my vehicles just for that.
To keep the door jamb switch depressed while I work on the car.
Also keeps the courtesy lamps from melting the 40 year lenses.
