I've been tossing around "dipping" one of my two '68 D100 pickups...lo and behold, the May 2015 Car Craft has a feature on doing exactly that! Their recipient of the dip was a '94 Mustang ragtop, which was originally a horrid bluish green, with peeling topcoat and fading paint. They dipped the car in a cool bright yellow with a blackout hood center. I think the car came out pretty damn good! For a daily driver, it looks like it'll do the job, plus you can peel the "dip" off if and when you decide to actually paint the car. Would I do a "C" this way??? Likely not. But I have a truck that has about 80% of the original paint, interspersed with added primer spots and places down to the factory prime coat. Why spend $4K or more on paint when I can spend about $450 for the complete system that is sold through Eastwood, and have the truck in ONE color that is real close to the factory blue???

Gotta wait for the tax refund, then I'm getting that kit. I know, some of you guys are thinking "WTF???", but I am not wanting to spend the cash on paint. I'm gonna give this a try on one of the trucks, probably the stock, unaltered D100. The lowered '68 will get paint one day, but I'm in no hurry to do that.

Why wouldn't you???

Totally agree, I've thought about it myself just to get the car preserved until I'm ready for real body work and paint. Can you actually get it tinted to the right color, or is it all off the shelf stuff? Can't wait for the "after" pics, I'm sure it will look great.

Not true.
If the brain is even remotely acceptable (endorphins and **** like that) to things like dipping,
grabbing an Uzi and picking off school children from a rooftop is possible.

Just say NO to dipping.
Unless it's your pliers. But only under the supervision of someone over 60.

That's a bit harsh. more like first the dip, then the grille.

I don't do guns, unless they are spray guns. This, however, may be a good color match for the vert.

As stated, it's more of a temp measure to preserve what's there, and is a damn sight cheaper than a full paint job! They do customize colors, as I'm looking for something between what is stock and a Corporate Blue. Paint jobs are just too damn expensive to warrant painting a daily driver. This is an affordable and perfectly presentable method of achieving ONE color without breaking the bank. I hate "patina" unless it is REAL, not manufactured. With the primered areas on my truck, I'm ready for one color. And I'm just not gonna spend $4K for paint on a $4K truck.

Well said .I am the same my truck cost me about 3000 $ and it's going to be the same to paint it .So iam just going to paint it myself and if it's not perfect to bad . You sound as if your a canny person with your dosh . That's Scottish .Roughly translated means . You sound as if you are very astute with your $

In the uk it's called wrapping .Its like a film that's wrapped on to your car and if you get fed up with it after a couple of years you just peel it off and your original paint is still there .:yaayy:

I believe we may be talking about two different things.
Dipping is a liguid applied by brush or spray.

When a vinyl film is applied like contact paper, we call that wrapping.

At least in the good ol U.S. of A. anyway.

Oh, silly me, here I thought it was called "twerking"...

I just hot into dipping as well mainly as a way to play with paint scheme ideas that are removable before fully committing to one expensive paintjob. I do love the flakes pearls and such you can now play with
