Pulled the old engine yesterday. Am finishing up a couple of things on the rebuilt 440 before installing. When we got the car I knew it was not the original engine in it. Late 70's with forged crank. The engine going in is a B440 block bored .030 over, cast pistons, ARP rod bolts, stock forged crank that just needed to be polished. The cam is stock grind. Got the cam all coated with zinc paste and have zinc additive for the oil. I did spend money on a 6 quart oil pan and pickup from Mancini racing, nice pan has the notch for the steering linkage and baffle. The heads are 906 with hardened exhaust seat installed. Intake is a M1 dual plane. Put an aluminum water pump housing. I'll see if the "High Flow" water pump is as good as the reman that was on the old engine, if not won't be too bad to swap. Hopefully have it setting between the frame rails this evening.

No pictures tonight, had a big rain storm roll through. Got the accessories on and belts aligned.

Just made an 1100 mile road trip to Alabama to visit brother in law. On the way out of the state stopped for some boudin balls and the car stalled when leaving the parking lot. Pushed it back into the parking lot. Then it started back up and went across the road to a gas station to gas a drink for the road, car idled fine. Then on the on ramp to the interstate it stalled again. Found had good spark and no fuel. Had a new fuel pump and started to swap it out, engine was super hot. While swapping the fuel pump a guy stopped and helped me. We dropped the fuel pump push rod to grease it up to keep it up in the block and found it was worn. Flipped it around so the undamaged end was riding on the cam lobe. Installed the new fuel pump and headed for the house to swap out the push rod. Swapped out the push rod and grabbed a spare for the trip. After getting to my brother in laws checked the push rod and no issues. Changed the oil filter and added a quart of high zinc oil. Got back home last night, this morning went out and checked the push rod, measured just short of 3.25" not showing any signs of abnormal wear. I'll be checking it from time to time to check for wear. I think it might have been the old fuel pump that caused the push rod to wear.

It is a good idea to keep an eye on your rods guys. I'm going to pull mine out at the end of this season and measure it.

I'll have to check mine.

Drove about 25k miles problem free so far.
