Wow, that's gorgeous!

That car can park anywhere it damn well pleases!

I know it's not a c-body. It don't have a Plattform specification but it's an Imperial... and all later Imperials are c-bodys, right?

and it looks nice...

The later Imps are technically Y-bodies but now we're splitting hairs.

If we are getting technical, Y is the car line and uni-body 67-75 Imperials are more aptly described as modified C bodies. The full frame Imperials were D bodies.

The Imperial stub frame from 67-73 was longer, giving the car the 127 inch wheel base. From the firewall back the underpinnings were all C body interchangeable to varying degrees as Chrysler slowly lost the ability to give the Imperial line its own distinctive sheet metal etc. Interiors were interchangeable with C bodies- just more high-brow.

The most C body like Imperials were the 74-75s that shared the most C body components, including the C body stub frame, reducing the Imperial wheelbase to 124 inches for those years. Unique sheet metal for the 74-75s was down to only the bumpers, front header, quarter panel end caps, hood/ decklid. Imperials used more sound deadening inside them to make them quieter.

Considering the commonality of parts its amazing how different Chrysler was able to make the Imperial appear. I love them.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. ;)

Because it's such an old and well preserved Chrysler specimen I say it gets special dispensation.

I read a story by one of the designers of the 74/75 Imp that said there were no plans for an Imp after 73.
With months left to go before the 74 intro, a few designers on their own time did a "what if", presented it to someone in management who got lucky the night before and said "yah, go for it". They had a ***** of a time trying to get the bumper stampings correct.

Amazing story:

Yup, they unknowingly created a design that would become very successful, considering big cars were on the way out, with design cues that were copied by others and would carry on to 1993. The 74 Imperial was a home run.

I thought the 67-68 were the only D-bodies. I will go with what you say Mr c, and be glad to learn. A friend of mine had a 68 crown coupe, amazing how much was different 5 on 5 bolt circle the one off brakes and rotors even the t-bar adjuster bolt was 5/8 instead of 3/4 hex and if you dig through service manual all the tourque values are higher ( ball joints piviot pins tie rods etc.)
