Side to side engine level never really occured to me until I installed the exhaust and the passenger side header ended up an inch and a half lower to the ground than the left side. In fact it isnt even up in the cross member channel at all. Checked the engine level and turns out its slightly off the bubble leaning to the starboard side. The mounts are new from Schumacher and everything bolted up without any trouble. I thought about loosening everything off, lifting the engine a bit to see if it will wiggle over until level but still not sure if that will make much difference.

Anyone ever deal with this? Can being slightly off level affect performance? I hate the thought of seeing that header hanging there from a distance.

I wouldn't be concerned about that in the least.

Doing a little math based on the shim, I'd say you are out 1/4" or so at the motor mount with the left side being lower. The left side of the engine is going to come up that much under acceleration when the motor mounts flex and that will make it level if that makes you feel better about it.

Only my .02 but by looking at the pic you took at the cross over brace You're telling me that exhaust system was bolted together while laying on the ground and then stuffed up under the car!(No way to impact that u-bolt clamp if it's up in that position) I'd loosen everything up, push it up to the floor and re-tighten from the under side. Jer

That is what I would try. Just saying, is the concrete floor/rest of car exactly level, where you are measuring? The back muffler could be pulled up fairly easy. Very nice car!

Same advice, just wanted to add my compliments on the engine compartment, nice work.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! But I think you're obsessing a little. Looks good to me other than the company fabricating the headers obviously didn't use a jig.
Looks to me the collector tube wasn't welded correctly the the runners.

Actually the headers were mounted first then the exhaust pieced together one pipe at a time. I will say that the hangers, brackets, and overall fit from TTI was excellent. I easily put an impact on the clamp from above given how low its hanging.

Can you just tweak the header a bit to get that rise?

Not a bad suggestion Peter. I think I will unbolt the flange below and the header bolts and see how much it will come up. Of course this will be a b/tch now that the fenders are on.

My wife tells me I tend to be a bit anal about these things, but my world has to be level plumb and square. Yes I wonder about the fabrication too but otherwise I'm impressed with TTI. Another point to consider is that the driver side is a B body header which I had to do in order to clear the manual steering box and it turned out to be a nice fit. The side in question is a C Body header. I have to wonder if a B body header would work better on both sides.

I was thinking more along the lines of a slight upward nudge at the collector end, you know, to get a little more bend in the pipes.:shruggy:

I have some luck with jacking up on the header collector to get them tighter to the body. I would shim between engine mount plate and rubber mount where the stud is it not a issue but it will help the header go up also.
