I have a fast idle control on my 72 W.S.P. Polara, problem is it's not attached to anything. Anybody know how these worked?

Do you mean a regular high idle cam or something that police cars have that allows them to kick the high idle back on to power stuff?

Its probably either a anti dieseling solenoid or a idle increase for a/c, heavy lighting loads, all at idle should energize when a/c is turned on I think.

That's why I mentioned the anti-dieseling 72 was all the drops in lead and octane I think some 71, 6-pack cars came with these for this reason. It would be energized any time the ignition is on.

Unit is mounted through the dash to the lower right of steering column.Fast idle 001.jpgFast idle 002.jpgFast idle 004.jpg

I remember those. Poor man's Cruise Control.
Can still get them at tractor supply stores.

The 70 Ohio State Highway Patrol Fury that came through my Dad's post has one of those on it. I'm pretty sure it kicks the car back to the high idle to run all the electric accessories.

But what does it hook to? This is all I have, I know there's more to it, perhaps a spring or cable that attached to the carb. linkage?
