I remember the first time I saw one of these lovely Fury's, I experienced a few seconds of wondering if that was a huge dent, or the intended shape of the body..

what a pessimistic bunch..... a few phone calls to station two should yield some photos and proof.

When exactly did the asking prices on fire cars and cop cars go completely apeshit???

Approx. eight years ago there was a ex-CHP '69 Polara that SOLD on EBAY for something like $30k. Remember these cars were not thought of as something special for decades and thus treated accordingly. That led to many being destroyed thus few left today making them desirable. Those with documentation and period correct equipment will demand higher prices no matter what their condition.
I purchased my ex-Wash. State Patrol '70 Plymouth Fury III twelve years ago and restored it. For me I have always loved these cars growing up no matter what their value.

Seems like this car was in another recent thread (past 10 days?). Anyway, I wasn't able to find this car listed at $29,500..not saying it wasnt but I just didn't see it.

I am hard pressed to envision any police/fire car from this era at that lofty price level however. A CHP rig, 1969 model, under 50,000 miles, all original and fully documented, pictures of it transporting Charles Manson to jail, etc... you all know what i mean.

I see Pete K. was posting as I was writing. It would have to be really a fine specimen of a desirable model and/or of documented historical significance to get up there into nose-bleed price territory for these ex-police/fire department cars..

This fire department car is nice. If its documentation is in order, it looks like it might have been a "real" FD rig, but it doesn't seem to have a "police package" (we don't see fender tag/build sheet)

I wrote seller and asked for the fender tag photo but didn't get it. He sent me an underhood pic..clean but nothing visible there that was indicative of "police package".

I wish him good luck with it. As to price, the market will sort all that out.

I also asked for a pic of the fender tag but also for the receipt of sale from the City of San Francisco listing the car sold and it's VIN to trace lineage. No answer yet.

And there is the problem - once ONE example sells for five times what they would normally bring, now suddenly every single swingin' Dick out there thinks theirs is just as valuable, never mind it's in one-tenth the condition. What I coined as "Barrett-Jackson Derangement Syndrome", or BJDS a few years ago.

looks like two tags on cross-member..probably because its got more options as Fury III?

Does that mean you can't call'em?

Was it when this car was supposedly in service?

A phone call or two answers the question

This is where the seller is confusing. He talks about a San Francisco Fire Chief. Well there is only one and they are driven where they need to go. On the other hand if he is talking the Captain of the station that is different. Given that these guys retire after 20 years there is going to be no one in that station familiar with that car in the slightest. Would guess most in the station are under 40 with only a current Captain and Lt. between 40-50. Heck, probably few in the Department who were born before the car was even built. The City would have cycled this car out of service, regardless of mileage, by the time they went to Crown Vics for the Police of which I have seen both as SFPD and SFFD.

Edit: The SFFD has the command structure of Battalion Chief, Assistant Deputy Chief and Chief. There is no Division Chief. The current Chief joined the force in 1990. There are five Assistant Deputy Chiefs with the most senior joining the force in 1985. A google search finds no one by the name Ruggy, past or present, but does find all the other deputy chiefs once you know who to look for.
