As I was changing my shift shaft seal on my 68 New Yorker, I noticed the linkage bushing on the transmission was kind of janky.
I looked one up, $34 for a plastic bushing?
I didn't have a lot to do today and had some oil impregnated bronze I had used to make some bushings for an older snowmobile.
I got this lathe for free a few years ago from a fellow up the road who rebuild and races vintage Jaguars. I don't have any training on it so whatever I do is usually trial and error. I have made a few things. Anything I make on it takes about 10 time longer than a pro.
This is what I ended up with. I made it longer to give the shaft more support.
Installation seems to be ok.
If I actually went to work, I probably would have made enough money in the time it took me to make the bushing to pay for the correct one. Oh well, I like doing stuff like this, especially when it come out OK. It kind of makes the car your own
