At long last, the 1968 Fury III Convertible comes to me. I've bought worse. This car is part of a "get the GTX painted" gone bad story, where my paint job deposit was spent on other stuff, the car sat for a year, and then shop goes out of business. As a settlement, I got a Fury III. To bore you with words no more....here's pictures.

That's a really cool car. Good luck getting her cleaned up, what a mess....

yeah, it's going to take a REALLY good cleaning, but the motor turns by hand, and there was a box with a full tune up in it...plugs, cap, rotor, condenser, coil...etc...

the car was last tagged in 1993....just kinda been passed around.

there's two solid front fenders, some imperial buckets, and a dash as part of the deal. The trunk floor is quite solid...i'm going to go through all the mechanicals first so I can drive it, then decide what I want to do for the body.

just going to cruise as is for now...in Dr. Herbert Fritz's 1968 pride and joy...

Looks like a kool piece, congrats! Start with the high pressure setting at the coin car wash.

There's still a doctor by the name of the first owner listed in Decatur likely either the man himself or some close family member, you might get some first hand info on the car there.

awesome! There's a Dr. Herbert, and a Dr. Bob Fritz in town. I have paperwork and think they're probably father and son. i'm going to definitely contact the son, as he had a 1968 911S in the 80s....looking to pass some history of that car on....

How's that?? I think that brake fluid is still okay?? LOLOLOL!!! NOT!!

I just want it to stop raining here...

Did some more cleanup and shredded top removal today...Time to start looking for parts. the metal header is half gone...mostly rusted away, and I somehow...SOMEHOW managed to cut one of the steel cables that connects section 1 to section 3...
How ironic....

Nice car. Looks like a solid beauty. Probably pretty rare combo with the green top and black interior.

Its not too bad. I got the carpet stripped out and the rest of the vinyl wiped down. The floors look pretty good. I'll have to do a small patch under the drivers seat front mount, and the fenders should be here this week.

I will be trying to fire it up this week. All the fluids looked good, they'll get changed out before I try to start it. Trans was starting to turn brown but didn't smell funny or burned, engine was inky, but didn't smell of coolant or look foamy.

Circumstances outside my control might mean I have to sell it....but I just GOT it....anyone got a value estimate for a big block convertible??

Been cleaning and working on the car. replaced the ignition lock cylinder (no keys), new sparkplugs and wires (squirrels got the old wires). I only got halfway done with the plugs because no matter what I did, the drivers side rear plug WOULD NOT go back in. the heat shield had warped itself upward a little bit preventing the square and true installation of the new plug. It was driving me crazy, but I eventually got it...

Old cars are fun. :head_smack:

#7 is a huge pain in the ***! I alway go from under the car.
how is it looking now that its had a bath?

It's a lot better now that it's had a bath. still is kind of funky...the carpet has been removed...the factory rubber mat is in perfect shape. the stitching on the seats is so brittle...it's just shredding. there's a small hole in the floor under the drivers front corner of the bench, it's an easy repair.

there's two front fenders coming, and i'll have a set of imperial buckets for sale soon.

as soon as I can get an oil change in it, and finish the plugs, i'll try and fire it up. the trans fluid is still red, the oil doesn't have any funny stuff...

The odometer reads 037xx so I'm presuming it's 1037xx...it's in pretty good shape...

i'll know more when I know more.

i'm on the fence between going custom and keeping it stock...

Are there any good links to production breakdowns? How many of the 44xx were big block cars?? I dig the white with the black interior and special green top...

So, with a little detective work from documents and stuff found in the trunk, I tracked down the son of the original owner. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes, and got the whole history of the car, and how it ended up in the condition it is currently in. apparently a guy offered to put it in enclosed storage for him, and when he went 2 years later to get the car, it was at guy's mom's house behind her shed outside, uncovered...he was so frustrated, he sold it. the Original owner is 95 and in a nursing home, his wife is 91 and still driving to bridge and shopping and church...amazing!!

I should have it running this weekend...all the plugs are changed, and all are clean. Dr. Bob wants first refusal if I ever sell...

I'll get some this weekend...should be our first sunny days in months here in Atlanta...
