Seems kind of unnecessary at a time when service stations had a rubber hose to run over and alert the attendant anyway,

Guess some people felt there was a need for it, like what if the attendant was in the john?

That’s a new one on me.

They were popular in the fifties. One of my older brother's friends had one in his 1955 Mercury. I don't recall that their use was to call the gas station attendants, but more or less like another horn to make noise with.

Well, hopefully he finishes what he needs to do, before he worries about what you need him to do. Just sayin....

Vintage White Floormat ! Very Scarce today.

I saw this auction, too! Given that the first owner of an Imperial was often rather, um, "venerable" it sort of makes sense. I can picture some little old lady, who maybe doesn't walk so well anymore, but is far too civilized (she drives an Imperial, after all) to shout, using this to request all kinds of assistance from the working class.

Yes. I recall selling these in my father's Western Auto Store circa 1950. Big bell under the floorboard makes LOUD two-tone clangs. This lovely car did not sell and did not attract much of a bid. Reserve not met. I went ahead and ran the tag data through my decoder. Auto-Pilot, tilt wheel, SureGrip and other items do not show up on '64 Body Data Plates, assumedly being the responsibility of the chassis assembly line.
