Hell, our Federal government is bankrupt...does that stop them? Their only advantage is they print the (worthless) money.

It is not really right, you or I would never be allowed to do it. I had many, many friends that worked at Kmart. Many had worked for 10-15 years and bought stock along the way with the company plan. For most, it was their only retirement. Some managed to liquidate it fast enough at a loss. The rest lost every cent. Imagine if you could wiping out every debt owed (a stock is considered an obligation on the balance sheet), cherry picking what stores to keep, but keeping the income. Now resell the *new* stock, this is fricking genius. Suddenly it's raining cash. The fed goes along with it because they don't want to lose the tax base that 2 companies pay in. They will say it is to protect jobs, but really it's about the tax revenue they receive.
