Going to buy an '76 Cordoba

Hi bros, dudes, lads, guys,...

i'am going to have a look at this NOT running 1976 Cordoba for my father. 360-4 California with N95 Emission System :O! Maybe thats already the problem...but no lean burn!
Brougt to germany ~2015 from CA.

Do you have some advices for me? Things to look at? It cranks but won't start for 2 already years.
- Engine heat and fuel gauge are going diretly to "FULL" when power is on.

That's a long time to crank. Most starters wouldn't last anywhere near that long. :lol:

Sorry for the joke... Sometimes I can't resist.

It could be anything. You need to do 2 basic things. One is check for spark and the other is check for fuel. Take a can of starting fluid (ether) and a quick spray down the carb throat might give you some idea. If it fires up, it's a fuel problem.
 
Thank you. I'll do that. I have mechanical knowledge, I do everything on my cars by myself. But mostly one of you have advices for me e.g. the ballast resistor, I wouldn't had considered.

I'll negotiate the price and THEN try to fix the issue there. ;)
 
One observed issue with those cars is not related to their running. Seems that sometime in that time frame, Chrysler stopped putting seam sealer on the contact areas where the trunk outer skin wraps around the deck lid's structure. No big deal . . . for a few years. Paint kept things protected UNTIL several years of temperature changes (and metal movement) allowed moisture to get to those "itched-away" areas and little specs of surface rust happen. Unseen, but there if the deck lid is raised. Never did look at the door skins, though.

A friend had a '77 with the halo vinyl roof. On the rh side, above the window, rust bubbled up from underneath. He bought the car new. I have seen similar on the vertical sections of the deck lid between the license plate and rail light, on the rh side of the deck lid. When I saw these things, they seemed strange! The vast bulk of these cars had no issues, but they can exist, for whatever reason. Perhaps a simple "tap test" might be used?

Just check the basics. Make sure you are getting fuel and that it is not too old. Check to see if you are getting spark. Looks like a nice car. My older brother bought a 1978 new and it had a really nice ride.
 
Are there some special issues i should know about with 360-4 california? On the only pic i saw on the add it SEEMS like somebody already deleted this option (would be great!).
