Hello all! I recently became the proud owner of a 1968 Newport 2-door with near-perfect interior and near-perfect black vinyl top. The guy I bought her from says he found her in a barn in Kansas. He had her for a couple years and just kinda lost interest. He redid all the brake lines and put new shoes & pads on her and had the gas tank boiled out and resealed.....but it was leaking around the sending unit when I went to check her out. But I couldn't resist the old girl's sexy, swoopy lines. We agreed on a price and I drove her home. It was an eventful ride. My suspicion is that he was about to start redoing the front end when he discovered the lower ball joint issue. See, this particular Newport has factory power front disc brakes and that throws a huge wrinkle in the front end rebuild process. Anyway, I'm curious about how many disc brake equipped Newports were made in '68 and don't know where to find that info. Any help on that would be much appreciated. Beyond that, I'm just planning on building a better engine/trans for her (I'll pull the originals out and set them aside unmolested since they seem to be in decent working condition). Hope these pics show up right..... :sSig_noob: I added the bias ply whitewalls. 100_2109.jpg1888878_10202901768517576_3084454585279666481_o.jpg I almost didn't buy her because I thought the interior was TOO nice. Glad to be here and TIA for putting up with all the questions I haven't even thought to ask yet.

Fine looking Newport! Welcome to the site from the Motor City!
Absolutely no way of knowing how many came with disc brakes.

Hello from Minnesota. The car looks great with those white walls! Nice score. Couldn't tell you about how many came with disc brakes, I've only seen a few but I never paid attention to the numbers part of things. The numbers crunching guys might chime in.

I live in a bit less crowded area of MO. Can't stand going to St. Louis, St. Charles, or St. Peters. Too many people and the traffic has gotten absolutely insane over the years. Rather be out here in the sticks.

My Missouri experience took me through St Louis to Columbia and back...it's not supposed to be like that in the mid west

Welcome to the forum! This is a real cool car! Love the plastic sorry, I mean the clear vinyl seat covers!

Actually, I have no idea what the seat cover is made of. Whatever they put on it back in '68. The front seat cover was too shredded to save so it's gone away. To the best of my knowledge, the rear cover is original equipment. Same goes for the vinyl top.
