headers

That's a touchy subject around here and I have asked the same thing myself, but like polara71 said TTI is what you want. I know someone on the site bought some for his ride and the fit was great but they are not cheap

cheap will get you poor fit and the need to bend and bang them all up to fit. If you want them to fit with little to no banging and bending. TTI is the only way to go. The 65 is a car unto itself. Many things are 1 year only. TTI are expensive but the best choice for a 65 w/383.

TTI s are the way to go. They're expensive but you don't have to constantly retighten header bolts and replace gaskets like you do with allot of the cheap headers

The cheapest thing you can do (that you wouldn't regret) is put HP exhaust manifolds on it. Personally, I put Schumacher shorty headers on my 65 Sport Fury and will soon be replacing them with TTI full length headers. I am not really bothered by what the purists think about headers. Headers work for me, but it will cost you for a decent set. You will end up hating the cheap ones. One main thing with big block headers is to get the thickest header flange (at the head) that you can get. The spacing and exhaust port size make thin flanges very prone to warping.

You guys need to calm down on your tightening. You can't crank the crap out of anything with a gasket that thick and not expect it to bend/tear though the gasket. Hell I have reused exhaust gaskets with permetex high heat ultra orange goop, mostly because I am a cheap *** but I figure you all know that already.

I have Hookers from a B body on mine, they fit fine, but, the starter is caged. When it finally takes a dump, it will be either drop the header, or figure out how to chop a starter up in little pieces.

any good inexpensive headers for 65 383 sport fury.

If yer not gonna race the car, don't fool with headers. Just scare up a set of stock HP cast iron manifolds and be done with it. Headers are gonna do nothing for you on the street. . .

Uh oh, what's wrong with the Schumacher headers?

Not a gosh darned thing.

I have Hookers from a B body on mine,

Mine too, no bending or beating them to fit. Though I did spend some bucks for quality gaskets.

Also secure the collector gaskets to the flanges with o-rings over the bolts. Yes the o-rings burn off, but you don't have to fight with the gasket constantly falling when you're hooking up the pipes.

i always use the soft aluminum ones with hightemp sil. never leak and you can reuse them if you haven.t overtightened the crap out of them plus use studs and 12 point nuts you,ll be dead and they'll still be tight and leak free

the pass. side h.p. manifolds are prone to cracking. so good luck in finding a crack free one they repop $400.for new one tho if your heart is in it to go that way. man they look way better than headers with a lot less probloms an perform alot better.

I had a set of Hooker headers that I bought for my 74 Road Runner, I decided to use them on my 65 fury (383) when I couldn't find C body headers. The driver side fit like a glove but the passenger side took quite a bit of hammer work to make it fit. Problem was interference with the torsion bar. When I switched to a 440 in the Fury, there was no way to make them fit without cutting and welding new pipe to clear the passenger torsion bar. I ran a custom set of headers for years until they rusted out (from when the car was in storage). I was getting insane quotes to have a new set of headers made ($1500+) so I was going to use HP manifolds. After seeing the Schumacher shorty tri-Y headers, I went with them. I have been very happy with them. They fit great, do not capture the starter, and I have never had problems with gaskets.
This is my personal experience with C bodies and headers. If you are on a budget, cast iron HP manifolds are the way to go. If you have the money, you will not be unhappy with the Schumacher shorties.

Interested in selling the Schumachers?
