Hi i have a 62 880, anybody convert the headlights over to newer style bulb instead of the 1 peice sylvania 4000. If so what did you use. Thanks'
John.

There aren't a whole lot of options available for cars/trucks with the four round headlights. Plus, with anything other than the original incandescent Sealed Beams, you will need Headlight Relays, at least for the High Beams. I upgraded to these...

and they are actually quite bright, but again, without relays you'll almost certainly burn out your Headlight Switch.

Once you install headlight relays, a higher amperage alternator and some wiring upgrades, you could install something like these.

These use replaceable Halogen bulbs like newer cars use. They are higher wattage, so the current draw will be high. These are about the only choices we have for our cars.

I hope this helps

I use halogens in my cars, both low and high beam, and have never had a problem. No relays needed, just a straight swap.
Plenty of light too.

With all these new vehicles coming out with those effing high intensity crystal white lamps blinding you even on their low beams, I'm tempted to throw a gang of 150W off road lamps on a light bar on the roof and blind them to death.

The new Ford 150/250 4x4's are the worst. I can't believe they are legal.

35 years ago a friend and iI went to Janesville WI. to look at a car for me. We drove his '66 Olds 442 convert. with aircraft landing lights for high beams. Boy when he turned them on a swear we could see for miles.

I git really pissed off and fed up so I installed 85/100'so in one of my cars. Wasn't worth everybody blinding me back flashing their hi beams back at me. They cam out.
But F%$#!!!!, did they light up I-95 at night!

What I want is 55/100's.. :D

Put a set of HID's in my '65 using Hella bulb bases. They're great. The ballasts are hidden out of the way but easily accessed and use CAN-bus waterproof connectors throughout. Aiming can not be done with a machine because the housings are flat faced and don't have the nibs on them to mount the aiming tool, so you'll have to find a flat surface about 30 feet from a wall. The verticle cut-off is about 32 inches so they don't blind oncoming drivers, high beam will light up the moon.

Thanks, didnt think of relays for higher output, my 4000 series burned out and oreilly had 5006h
As a replacement so they r in but it was tough finding them. An upgrade to bulbs will make
Living w the car easier. John.

did you have to cut anything out of the light bucket? they have hi/lo and hi bulbs? considering this upgrade to my 69 Fury but only have stock alternator and wiring...

My 2c....

BMW dealers sell Bosch 5 3/4" reflectors as spare parts. These are usually H4 halogen on low beam, and H1 on hi beam. Good quality parts, as would be expected from a German company. If these are used, add relays and the correct gauge wiring. I use a pair of double relays.

If fitting relays is for some reason not an option, H1 and H4 led bulbs have been available here in Europe for a few years. These use less power than the original sealed beams, so relays are not required. They give more light than both stock and halogen as well...
