I have a set of HP manifolds that I was given years ago. The engine is out of the car and I am going have a new exhaust system installed from the manifolds back once I reinstall the engine. So I was hoping that I might be able to make use of the manifolds I have. I have the ultra low performance option 400 ci with the optimistic 7.8 to 1. CR so I am looking for all the help I can get, 10 hp here 5 hp there it all adds up. if I can get another 50 hp or 75 lb/ft of torque total, it would help. I don't want to run headers so as far as performance exhaust goes this is really my only option. My understanding is that most of the RH manifolds will work, and the primary issue is with the LH Manifolds and clearance with the steering column. Any thoughts? The stock 1976 440 manifolds flow pretty damn good.
You wouldn't feel any seat of the pants difference with 69 HP manifolds.
You're hauling 5,000 lbs around. 10 hp is not going to help.
If you MUST have new manifolds, the '74 one year only manifolds will bolt right in with zero interference.
I am doing the same thing. I have a set of 915 heads with SS valves with the bowls opened up, a Performer aluminum intake, Edelbrock carb, 1969 440 Magnum cam, upgraded ignition system.I have a driver side C body 383/440HP manifold for the 67-70 model if you are Interested. However I have not owned a 75', so I don't know if anything is different regarding the steering column clearance. Do something with that compression ratio and cam, and you can find a lot more power from that 400. Just 915 heads will rise the CR.I already had HP manifolds on my (1977 Cordoba)400, but I did the above, and added a 69' 383 Intake and carb. The results were amazing.
