Hello,
My name is George and I'm looking for information on this grey 1964 plymouth belvedere that raced at Utica/Rome, Esta, Fulton and other central NY dragways by Herm Schremmer. In 1970, it was painted blue and labeled the rebels two by Koy Lilly and Basil Kester. Please excuse the fact that it is a b body. Thanks

Herm was living in Westmoreland the last I knew. He's up there in age though. Last I heard, he was helping someone race one of those new Challenger drag pak cars. I think his long time racing partner, Ralph Conte, was involved with the Challenger too. Herm had about a million kids, so try googling his name and you might come up with one of his kids in the Westmoreland area. Ralph might be easier to find.

The car goes back further than I do. I just remember it from when Dave Johnson and his partners had it.

Yes, Dave Johnson owned it in the 80s. Do you have any pictures or info. on this? Thanks

Have you talked to Bob Henry from Henry's Competition? Dave Jr.?

I remember Dave taking the car to Wolverine Chassis in Detroit (?) for the roll bar install. They really never ran the car though.

I have nothing else.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! What is it about that car for you?

I happened to think of this. Herm would have moved the gas pedal to the left side so he could drive it with his good leg. He did that with his other cars.

Chances are it got moved back to the right side later on, but that would explain any extra drilled holes in the floor pan.

So...is the car going to be restored to "as raced" condition? Or back to stock?

It will be restored back to factory race conditions with upgraded parts. My father coined it as a continuation car. It was originally a 4speed and Herm put in a period correct 727 auto all tricked up. cheetah valve body reverse pattern real slick. Apparently Herm was the auto. genius. But, were putting the a833 4 speed but with a 65 alum. race hemi 4 speed with lakewood scatter shield. we do have the original steel 4 speed and bell housing. The car came updated with a 69 1/2 dana 60 sure grip with 5.13 gears which will stay. Racing Torque thrusts for the rear(custom fit) and steelies for the front Were not going back to the 8 3/4. The engine is a complete stage111 H.C. balanced and blueprinted. All period correct build dates. We have updated the oil pump, pan and ignition systems. Hookers headers that sweep under the car instead of the cast iron headers. Besides those mods, we are trying to keep it close to original as possible. I located 2 original pictures of the car which was from Nevada originally.

I found this picture a few weeks ago. Its the origin of this car. Notice the torque thrust rear wheels and steelies in the front. We set it up like this before we found this picture. 15" all the way around. I found a set of vintage 15" steelies for the front.

Herm did a lot of automatics for the guys around here. He did one for me back in the seventies before I figured out how to do them myself.

Herm has an artificial leg, so I'm not surprised the car was converted.
