Is this you and your car?

Dave

Top pic is my old car. Not me in the background though...

Here's a pic of my A12 and my 383 RoadRunner at the same show, possibly a different year or at least on a different day.

The car in the second pic is not mine. I think this may be the same car. This was taken at the Syracuse National at the State Fair grounds a few years ago. I believe this was a car that was raced in the area for a few years and then put back on the streets. IIRC, it is a real A12.

Here's another A12 from that show. This is the late Dave Johnson's car. He's facing away with blonde hair. This car is parked in a garage about a mile down the road from me.... Untouched for many years.

Oh... Just realized who Dave is parked next to.. Mike Russo's 69 Charger 500 Hemi. This was the Hot Rod magazine test car and the first 69 Charger 500 built. How's that for a piece of trivia.

where are they now...?
Well... My friend Bruce has my A12. He had it at Carlisle last year. I sold the green 383 RR to a local guy and he resold it to another local guy. The car was painted a darker green and I still see it every couple of years. My ex wife spotted it this summer driving by her house.

The red A12 Dodge is down the street from me. The guy that owns it is a little.... ummm... different. He bought the car in the early nineties, drove it for a summer and parked it. I saw him a couple years ago and asked about it... Still sitting there and not for sale etc. At least it's in a garage. Dave's other A12 is the green one on Graveyard Carz and that's all I'm going to say about that.

The Hemi 500 was an interesting story. Mike Russo bought that car off a used car lot in 1970-71 around the Albany area. Over the years, he put the pieces together about the car's history and confirmed that it was the Hot Rod test car. I was at a car show parked next to it and Galen Govier asked me if I knew who owned the car. This was around 1990. He said he would like to take a closer look. Long story short.. GG spotted the VIN and knew right away this car was the first 69 Charger 500 built. The car was 90% original paint. I think the car had about 100k miles on it too! Mike said he would never part with the car and then the price sky rocketed and Mike's health was getting bad so it was sold. The car ended up in a private collection somewhere and I never found out where it is. It will pop up one of these days.

Thanks Big John!

You can't find this kind of history any other place on the planet and the guys that drove these cars!

Are you coming to Carlisle this year Big John? I (and other FCBO members) would like to talk about these cars with you.

I almost bought a low mileage J5 1970 Superbird just before I made a career change in 1976 for $2500. By time I convinced my Grandma to borrow be the cash the car was sold. My Dad was puzzled why I wanted such an ugly car. LOL!

Is that the prototype Charger 500? The one built from a '68 model?

I love looking at all the rare Charger 500's and other B's at Carlisle.....

I'm planning on being there. Have the hotel reservations and the 300 is registered!

I sold the 383 RR about 20 years ago.

If I really dug, I might come up with the VIN. I wouldn't count on it though. Before I dig around, here's a description.

The car was F3 green and the last I saw it the car was painted darker green.. Maybe F5. Green bucket seat interior with console. Automatic with power steering. I had put a AM/FM factory radio in the car along with a clock. If that sounds like it, I can dig for the VIN or even give a couple specifics particular to that car.
