How does the number plate light fit?

Hi All. I have very much appreciated the advice received by the great people in the c body community here. I’m finalising the cleanup/repair of the rear bumper pieces on my 72 Hardtop Fury and can’t figure out how the number plate light fits to the chrome rear bumper without the number plate hitting it when plate is pulled out for filling her up. See pictures.Prior to removal it was a close call but the plate did open for fuel. Not now however.

The light bracket probably attaches to the bumper. Here's a 69 Chrysler 300.
