I will be installing a rebuilt Power Steering Box tomorrow. What's the easiest way to flush out the Power Steering Pump? The pump still has the old oil in it - I should have flushed it clean when the old steering box installed, but too late now. I don't want to run the old oil through the rebuilt steering box so that's my dilemma...

Just leave the high pressure hose disconnected from the box and it should just gravity drain. fill it with clean oil and let it drain again.

If it won't gravity drain, spin the pulley by hand or on the starter (pull the coil wire so it don't start, big mess if you don't) and let it pump itself out.

Agreed, also if is sludged fluid, I would flush- soak for a day- flush again. If there is metal particles it should be rebuilt or replaced.

I went thru my pump and while off jacked up car turned wheels, letting fluid out, filled as I went and turned lock to lock a few times. seemed to do the trick, pump had a lot of coated gunk on the internal parts so wiped those down, fluid is still clean after 2 months.
