I like the car. I've wanted a "toad" for quite a while now, but never found one where the stars aligned so it's never happened.
A couple things bother me... The conversion to the 4 speed is OK. It makes sense. The red stripe? Not so much. The scoop? WTF? Why would you do this? It just looks stupid six ways from Sunday.
As I understand it, the Hyper Pak was a dealer option. Everything I've ever read has said that. If there was a factory version, I would expect it to have the aluminum engine block, but there's no mention and I don't see the word "Special" cast in the head. So, the seller hasn't come out and said exactly what the pedigree is on this car, but he's also leading you on a bit with his description.
The Hyper Pak also included cast iron headers, a special cam and high compression pistons. No mention of headers, aside from the manifold and carb, that's something I would expect to see on a true Hyper Pak equipped car.
Honestly, I think it's a fairly nice, overpriced car that someone has "hot rodded" and added the 4bbl intake too. I have no idea what is up with the speedo, but while the Canucks weren't metric, there were other parts of the world that was, so I would say that's some sort of export deal. The fact that it's conveniently disconnected speaks volumes.
This guy's a flipper. He found the car, cleaned it up and now is trying to make a killing on it.
