I had a 1969 Polara 500 2-door, green body and white painted roof - was that factory?

Hi,

I need to dig up some pictures from way back in 1972 or so, but I had (and absolutely loved) a 1969 Dodge Polara 500. The body was green, the roof was painted white. It was a sharp looking car with the 500 trim and perfect colors for a kid going to college at Michigan State.

I've always wondered if the white roof was a factory option or if someone before me got rid of vinyl or just liked the look. Anyone have insight they could share?

Yes you could get the roof painted a different color than the body. The fender tag and broadcast sheet would tell you this info. They used the vinyl top trim to separate the colors.

I wish I'd known back then that someday I'd want a picture of that fender tag and broadcast sheet, at the time I was 18 and my priorities were elsewhere!

I'm sure they are in the box that's under the box behind a box in the back of the closet somewhere. What I'd really love to find someday is anything with the VIN on it just in case the old gal is still out there somewhere.

I still have a registration from my 71 polara from 85. Ya never know.

Two tones are cool and uncommon. Here's the chart showing the guidelines for 1969 two tone Polara 500's:

Here is a 69 Polara Sedan that I considered before I got my first Polara, this is an original painted roof car.
I have a few other pictures but none of the tag, another member here ended up with the car.

Here’s another example with V02 on the fender tag. V02 might be my favorite obscure code to ever grace a Mopar tag, especially on a non-service vehicle.

Not a C body but the '65 Belvedere II my wife used to own had a factory white painted top. That was a cool little car. Poly 318, factory air, ps, pb.

Up until the 70's you would see painted white tops from time to time, especially on sedans, including mine. Depending on the car, it can make a nice contrast, and dress up a "plain Jane."

More common in the 40's - 50's, they stuck around awhile, albeit in lower numbers.

I agree that the two-tone look really made mine stand out, and the green and white paint plus 500 trim stripe gave it a unique presence. Thanks again for the response!
