Mice are cute and all, but looks can be deceiving. The photo below is what my eyes feasted on after pulling the drivers side panel off in the back seat. It doesn't look like much but if you look closely, you'll see the forward area full of mouse nest, about an 8"x8"x4" mass of 'stuff'. I was not a happy camper, pulling the mass out of the confines. Where were the kids when I needed their assistance?

On a more positive note, the reason I pulled the panel in the first place was to put a black coat of vinyl paint over the sea-green color it originally came with.

I heard that mice hate the smell of dryer sheets I bought some heavily scented cheap ones from Dollar Tree to put in my car during winter storage. Didnt notice any mice yet, and its in a pole barn.

What's this vinyl paint you speak of?

Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Paint, HVP106 Flat Black (they also had gloss but I thought flat would look better). I got it at O'reillys. This is the first time I've used it but it seemed to cover the old color very nicely. One can did one front and rear panel, barely. I put maybe 4 or 5 coats on the panels.

Mice, ya. I can tell you a thing or two about mice... They had 32 years to do this on my WHOLE car... These nests were everywhere! Even the stubframe is filled with this dammn stuff... -_-

Ok, next I need to know about carpet dye.

Sorry, I have no experience with carpet dye (I'm sure others here have) and my carpeting is shot so I won't be dyeing it. The carpet on my door panels just got the vinyl paint. We'll see how it holds up.

Well, my car stunk inside when I first got it. I pulled the headliner out and found a few mouse nests. Great, I thought, there are the culprits. Nope, still stunk. So later on as I was working on the door and rear side panels, I found another nest. Great, I thought, that's the culprit. Nope. Still stunk. What's left? So I pulled the carpeting, at least the stuff I could get without pulling the seats or console. Still stunk. So today I pulled out the console. Ah-ha! Another mouse nest.

I'm hoping this is finally it.

You need one of these on patrol!!!
A cat or two might catch a mouse now and then but the little monsters will still get into places the cats can't and destroy the car by chewing the wiring and fabric into little pieces. Pack rats are even worse! Those dryer sheets are the best answer, along with moth balls, but you need to renew them, often. They don't like "strong" smells. A loud radio on 24/7 keeps them at bay, especially if it's tuned to "rap-crap" aka as "hip-hop!" I have tried many things to deter those monsters and these work the best! Good luck! 62 Dodge
