I could have been buying all the old cars I had or wanted in my early days for a fraction of what they are selling for now. Who knew a '76 Maverick would ask for 2x what it sold for new? I never see my first car on the market. It was a '66 tempest sprint 6 convertible bench seat 3-sp on the floor factory 4bbl car. I left it on the side of the road in sad shape. I wonder what that car would go for today

But.. If you took the $4500 or so (I'm figuring high) and invested it at let's say 5%, you would have just under $32K in the bank.

That's not really aggressively investing either... You could have done a lot better without a lot of effort.. But that's 7 times your investment.

Back to the car... $4500 investment... Let's say $400 a year to insure, another $400 a year to store it. So that's $32k just to keep the car around....

Sell the Maverick for $9k and you have a loss of $27.5K.

Just saying.... Cars aren't a good investment. I've spent a ton a money on cars though.... and I had fun doing it.

Thanks, the e-Bay auction prices were making me sick but with that perspective, I don't feel so bad. I came to Houston in a 70 GTO which was totaled in the rear. Nothing wrong with the front clip. Some junk yard dealer got a deal. I've left a few plays on the field and ignorance is no excuse.
