So saturday a local track was holding a grudge race & a small tire race. They also advertised that some Nostalgia Funny Cars would be there. So I went because I wanted to see the show. What a hugh disappointment. Only 2 Funny cars & one of them was an old vintage car. I walked over as they where firing up the car. After several attempts it fired. The guy told me they where have fuel pump problems. The car had an iron block & this was clearly a very low budget deal. He told me the fuel pump on it was 30 years old & was the only one he had. He said he rarely had help with the car & did much of the work on it by him self. I ALMOST offered to help & I thought better of it. I got enough on my plate to help out a low budget Nostslgia Funny car operation. He did make a pass & it ran awefull. Barely got down the track. The guy told me the fuel pump just wouldn't pump enough fuel.

The other Funny car was a better financed car. Easily over a $100 grand in this machine. Lots of late parts. He had a crew with specific jobs to do. However when he warmed it up it was not running right either. They where taking it apart when I walked away. Some kind of fuel issue on this one too. The Promoter was not happy. Not mad, but he wanted that car to make a pass. It was a 70 Duster body. Very beautifull car

Now for the grudge cars. What a big disappintment. There maybe 50 cars on the property. I think at least 40 made passes during the 5 hours while I was there. The others never came out of the trailer. I have no clue what that was about. Of the 40 grudge cars that made passes 30 couldn't even do a proper burnout. And when you have that kind of power & do a poor burn out you ain't gonna get down the track. Out of the 10 or so that did do good burnouts only 5 of them made good passes. This was the most pitiful thing I have ever seen. I walked over & checked out several of the grudge/no time cars. These guys spend a lot of money on aluminum blocks, heads, turbos & big nitrous kits, but most can't tune them good enough to make good passes. Crazy.

Grudge racing is usually a circus in Maryland. I normally don't go to these events. Totally out of control....100 people crew at the tree, pictures of dead or incarcerated "crew" members taped to the windows. LOL. These idiots can't and don't know how to race....a lot of **** blowing up or leaking all over the track. Just a waste of time to me.

Here's a professional video of a grudge race at Crapitol (spelled right in my mind) in Maryland...

It will be a lng time before I go to another one. If this is the future of sportsman drag racing then drag racing is in trouble

My take is that this is inner city racing...

Sportsman drag racing will still continue as we know it.

I don't get out often so I try to make sure I go someplace I know is going to be a good day out. I guess i can cross off this type of event eh?

Maybe grudge racing is different in the North. I'm just sharing what's happening in the Baltimore DMA.

There seems like there's always that type of street guy out there that can't figure out how to make their car run. It looks good, but that's it.

Years ago, I saw a trick looking V8 powered Vega get trailered into the local 1/8th mile track. It caught my eye because I had just read about the car in Car Craft the day before. The car looked great, actually sounded good etc.

They staged the car and it literally couldn't even drive down the track. The suspension and frame were so screwed up that it launched sideways. To this day, I've never seen a car that wasn't broken launch like that. I expected them to either load the car back up or get the tools out.... Nope... They tried running the car like that. I think the officials finally told them to stop. I never saw the car or those guys again.

There was a guy at my local track with a 7 second bike that couldn't keep it under control. Just didn't know what he was doing. Almost laid it down several times and almost hit the jersey barrier numerous times.

This is the kind of crap we get at the grudge track here. I agree with the wanna be and inner city opinions.

Bad welds.... Somebody got a Fisher Price "My First Welder" for their birthday.

Several years ago another track had a 275 tire race. Those cars got down the track very good. So I was assuming this event yesterday would be similar. I'm not sure what was wrong. The cars looks good. There was definitely money spent. They didn't have line locks as apparently they are allowed to burnout to the line. They just didn't know how to do it. My conclusion anyway.

The one thing I noticed is that the tires where kinda small & looked to have too much air. I was right there at the starting line & none of the tire had any sag or wrinkle. I'm sure they where running drag radials. And most of the cars where short wheelbase. So I guess they need more air. Us bracket racers run 8-12 That's just something I noticed.

These are the same a holes that build a 500 Cid engine and only go to car shows and cruises or DQ. The look what I have crowd.

There's a lot of "wannabes" out there. They get their asses handed to them when it comes to really going fast.
