It's my understanding the Imperials went from a metal dash veneer in '65 to all wood in '66. This car had approx 17,000 miles on it when it went for auction two years ago. The dash pic shows that it already had this odd dash panel then. No biggie, just wondering if anyone had run across that? Repair at factory or afterward?
1966 Chrysler Crown Imperial. : Lot 0011

The upper center piece is from a '64. Other than that, the car looks great! I don't mind that part, personally. I would not be a deal-breaker.

OK. No, not a deal breaker at all for me. I was really just curious as to how it could have gotten there considering the low miles on the car.

It looks to me that the Upper Walnut wood veneer piece Fell off and was never replaced. Just Sayin.

To me it looks like they might have had some radio work done, messed up the original, and just used one from a '65.

The pattern on the '66 is smooth - the walnut has to adhere to a smooth surface. Guaranteed that is not the panel that car was born with!

That is definitely NOT a '66 thing, that is for certain. I can easily post the pic of my '66 dash - it's all wood veneer where that panel is.
