A few shots from inside the Rays Hill Tunnel, not much left. The big green cylinders are the air exchangers, the round pod is the base for a lighting fixture in the ceiling, you're looking down at the roadway. If your caught you'll be cited for trespassing, I doubt I'll ever get back there so I had to see what is was like.

I heard about them from my cousin, years back they did a story on the tunnel used for testing race cars. I went online to find out any information I could find on this place. Some great video on you tube including one from 1953 showing most if not all of the tunnels.

I remember seeing a nice documentary on the PA turnpike , I dont recall these tunnels or them moving the roadway. I guess thats something they dont want people to know

67monaco has some interesting links on my other thread.

They allow people to go through those?

Apparently if no one official is around. Reminds me of a big pre-formed concrete bridge along US 8 east of San Diego. Coming back from the mountains one day we made a stop alongside and noticed people under the bridge. A metal door entrance was open and one could haul one self up, like getting into the belly of a B-17, enter the bridge and walk all the way across inside the bridge.

I'd hate to come upon some unsavory characters half way across while inside that thing...

Yes, something like these three. Meth heads find a gun in a lock box but in an unlocked car. Anybody with any brains knows that car break ins are huge in San Francisco. They then kill a young Canadian woman in Golden Gate Park and then move on to the Marin hills where they kill this guy and shoot his dog twice. The dog lived. I would like to see the three thrown to a pack of dogs for remediation.
