OK any post on how to restore or get new "jewels" for my 65 New Yorker? The metal is rusty that surrounds the plastic insert. I see that Chrysler used these on even Plymouth up into the late 60's.

Please verify "Jewels". The ornaments on the seat trim (vinyl) on the front side of the seat backs?

Thanks,

In the 65 New Yorker they are on the inside of the door 3 per door. On later years

they are on the seat backs facing forward. Even Plymouth had them on the highest end models like a VIP.

Now that we know of what you speak, of "ornaments", pictures might not be really necessary as we can now go to www.hamtramck-historical.com and look in the "Library" listings for the Color and Trim Guide images of the front seats and related door trim panels.

On the door panels, the items would have studs on the back of them that would be flattened/push on retainers to hold them in place. On the seats, a bit different retention method, I suspect.

Might not be pot metal, as suspected, but chromed plastic? But for that model year, I could be wrong and they are metal. Many of them were model-year specific and not re-used on later models, once used. Similar, but not exactly the same.

As those parts were very probably "snail-pace" parts sellers, any residual stock was probably purged from the corporate parts bins after the last model year of their use. A salvage yard would want to sell you the complete door panel rather than just the ornaments off of it.

Can you carefully mask-off the ornaments to clean/refurbish them? In some cases, just basic rubbing compound and car wax can make them look much better, from my experiences on instrument panel chrome.

Just some thoughts and observations,

These are really shot. Solid rust. It is a chrome plated tin with a black plastic center shaped like a eye. I will try to clean them but it does not look good. I am open to other years, models to use in place of the original types. I have found for me a mix of "bar Keepers friend" with a cherry smelling interior cleaner works very well on chrome. And some times to use bronze wool. My grill it looking much better now days. And bumper.
