I just replaced the stoplight switch at the pedal and now I only have one brakelight come on intermittenly (the left one).

Sometimes when this happens, the hazards only blink on the left taillight also. Turn signals work fine.

Now, when i turn the blinkers on..left right left right.... the right brakelight starts working again til ...yeah til idk it intermittenly dosent anymore lol

Where do i look for that? Turn signal switch or hazard switch? Which one is more likely to have an issue? Like i said, turn signals are usually fine. Anyone expierienced this before and has some sort of input?

Turn signal switch, it also switches the brake signal to the left/right brake lights depending on the position of the lever. If the turn signal lever is in "neutral" both brake lights should work, if not there is a bad or worn contact in the switch.

I have found that the bulb receptacles that are crimped in the light housings will loose the ground. Check each, usually a twist will restore the connection at that point.

Will try the ground thing! I read somewhere that the taillights often have a grounding issue anyways....

To The turn signal switch: i had the steering wheel off yesterday and cleaned everything there, contacts looked fine but the metal spring/bridge/wire thing on the turn signal cam has some wear spots. Put it togeter with dielectric grease and the problem persists. It seems to have fixed my irregular speed blinkers tho lol.

Could be as simple as a bulb. The filament may only make sporatic contact. If original ....replace all the bulbs.

Update: that side taillight was half full of water....

It still looked all good but I had to dremel the screws off in order to take it apart. Cleaned it all up, resealed and reassembeled. Will see....

There are lots of versions of this tool, but the basic one is hard to beat. It acts as a test light which show pos and ground .It also can apply a ground or voltage and more, it saves a lot of time in trouble shooting.

I agree with 68..I bet it's your turn signal switch. I had issues like your many years ago on a 68 Coronet...after many days of hair pulling I finally realized the problem...new TS switch and it worked flawlessly.

Crazy as this sounds check all grounds in the engine bay. My 300 tail lighs acted up and it was my ground from the engine to the firewall. I didnt have a good ground after I painted the engine bay. Also I was working on my buddies 82 imperial for random tail light problems. I looked at everything. My 94yo grandfather told me to look for a ground behind the headlights in the car. I found a broken wire. Repaired it and all the brake lights started working. Just crazy a ground so far away affects so much.

Crazy how I actually went through all the grounds in the engine bay. Cleaned it all up, wirebrushed, deoxed it and put it together with some dielectric grease... i should be good there. Now, after i cleaned up that taillight, i havent noticed any outages on it so far....yet lol.
