Just wondering..Possibly a dealer converted Fire Chief car?.

I was wondering and since my Fury has this siren installed that looks to be Factory or Dealer installed and the cars color is factory red, could this be a Fire Chiefs car? The tag doesn't have the right code for this option (if it was an option) so could this have be converted to a Fire Chiefs car and if so is there anyway of finding out? This siren just has me puzzled, because it looks like it was a dealer installed item and it works. Not sure though. What do you guys think?
 
Sure, here is two and it looks dealer or factory installed?, but the fender tag is not saying that was an option.

Yes it's a pigtail. The wiring looks really old, like that cloth covered stuff from back then. I doubt it's a dealer or factory installed unit, but either way, it's pretty cool and works..! When you press the horn it goes off too. I'd really like to find out the history on this car. It's even got bracing under the rear that's welded under the tubes on the rear and bracing welded to the frame rails. Some weird **** going on with this car.
 
Volunteer fireman or possibly what you think it was. A code would be nice, but from my understanding, many were taken off of the dealer lots so there is a chance. Look for some sort of roof light mounts/wires/holes. I would not think a volunteer would do that, but an official fire vehicle would.
 
If it was a real factory produced Police/Fire car it should have info as part of the vin and build sheet. If neither help determine all is not lost. Alot of Fire vehicles were regular production cars (some to save money). The car looks like a 1967 era, if so the radio control head would of been mounted under the dash near the siren/light controller. The guts of the radio would be the size of two shoe boxes and mounted to the trunk floor so look for bolt holes. Does it have a certified speedo, signs of a spot light or roof mounted light bar. Does it have signs of the emergency radio antenna, either mounted on the roof,trunk or even on rear bumper or mounting plate. It could have the 102" antenna and if so some cars have a hole on the drivers side drip edge stainless trim. There is some things for you to check out. I'm surprised the siren motor copper windings are exposed.
 
Hmm, interesting. I don't see any holes in the dash for switches that would have been there for lights and so forth. I'm thinking whoever owned it before put this siren in. What is or how can I tell if it's a certified speedo?
 
Typically it will say "Certified" on the face. It may also increase the limit up to 140 mph which it shows on the face.

Generaly the radios and siren controls would hang under the dash much like everybody did with their CB radios.
The CHP put a switch panel over the factory radio opening which included a switch to swap between the siren and the horn.

Like has been said angencies in particular fire departments might just buy their car at the local dealer, a chiefs car would be a single car purchase and may not warrent a police package car.

If the wireing is cloth wrapped then the siren in much older, not uncommon to move equipment from one car to another.

As far as i know the factory didn't install sirens or wiring for them, they may have added mounting provisions for them as they did for the CHP.

Thanks everyone for the information. Without knowing the cars history, I don't think I'll ever know if it was an official fire vehicle. I will look at the car more closely when it warms up a bit here in Jersey.
