Okay i was mowing today merrily slaving away and the ride on mower simply died , the motor didn't even cough or splutter, just simply stopped. I checked for fuel and it still turns over strong on the starter, hmm, okay pulled one of the plugs and found no spark. Okay check, now i know its got something to do with the ignition system, checked the switch for "ignition on" power and thats fine, all the cut off switches are doing their thing. i think I have narrowed it down to the SAM module, (Speed Advance Module) which controls both the ignition coils, since i cant see both coils dying at once simultaneously i am going to rule that out(yes its a V twin motor). But, before i fork out almost a hundred bucks for a SAM unit, is there anyone familiar with the Kohler 26 horsepower V twin motor? Am i missing something maybe?

Just a thought,Not knowing how old it is, but they had (later models) a low oil switch. I had two go bad on two different units that kills the spark. We replaced one,pulling the engine and removing the lower case. the other we just by-passed. Again just a thought.

Interesting thought on the low oil switch I know mine has one, and i checked the oil to find it low so i topped that up but the motor still wont start.where is the low oil switch located? Also is it manually reset and if so, how?

Sorry. You lost me at SAM...

I know, I just found out that to test the SAM module you need a test unit similar to what late model cars use that gives you error code readouts, sheesh, its just a mower for crying out loud

I've got a 13hp diesiel with .5hrs on you can have... Your neighbors would love you early mornings...
but back to your problem;
I'd second the low oil switch. It's the easiest single point of failure to test.

I just found where this switch is and it looks just like a mopar switch you find in many cars,

Location, not sure on a 26 hp. On our WheelHorse mower it was in the block. I think it was 18 hp.
