Looks like I have a tranny gasket leak where the tail section mounts to the back of the tranny. Anyone have any experience with this?

Once bolts are removed and tail section removed, is there anything that can fall out? I assume the section it more than just a cover?

Is this just a simple gasket R/R or there much more involved that it appears?

Anyone have a part number and can recommend where to best acquire one?

Thx in advance

There is a big bearing retaining ring that you spread apart to allow the tailshaft housing to be removed. Access to this ring the under the small sheetmetal plate that is above where the mount bolts on 2 phillps screws, spread the tangs apart while pulling the housing rearward. A helper is a good idea each of you with a screwdriver pull the tang toward you and slide housing rearward. This ring is trapping the bearing in the housing if that helps you visualize what you are doing. Hope this helps. BTW did you try snugging the bolts up a bit?

Thanks for the explanation 70bigblockdodge. Even with your thorough explanation and checking out the picture in my manual I don't see what you're referring to. Are you referring to the bearing that is aft the speedo pinion? From the photo it looks like everything is inter-connected and there is no separation point. A bit hesitant at this point as my biggest fear would be pulling it apart and not able to get it back together. As they say, a little knowledge is dangerous. I'll try snugging up the bolts tomorrow and see where that takes me.

Yeah the bearing behind the speedo gear, there is a snap ring around it. Spread it out the bearing will stay on the output shaft reverse procedure to install.
