Hello everybody: long time lurker here, had a few nice mopars over the years and want some advice on a 1970 Newport convertible.
Here is the link to the ad:
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/windsor-area-on/1970-chrysler-convertible-very-good-condition-o-b-o/1073754050

Just wondering what to look for and if it's worth what he's asking. Looks like new body and paint - where are the bad spots in these cars - lower quarters, trunk, rockers - anything else?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Mike

Welcome to the forum! That is a nice looker, but it seems a bit pricey for what it is. Sheet metal is one thing, you have to be careful about what's hiding underneath a re-paint, but the smaller details like sun damaged interior could cost you in the long run. One thing I noticed right away is the plastic rear window and the snaps installed on the molding edge behind the convertible top to hold the parade boot. Originals were glass and the parade boot was held on by clips. Nice car, but I'd negotiate the price down a bit.

Some pics for the people:

Looks like a nice car with a great color combo. I like the no ac thing myself and the headrests could probably be painted or dyed back to the original color. I didn't look at the asking price...

check the lower quarters, front stub and rear rails, floor pans , lower fenders, and the cowl above the heater box and in between the brake booster and wiper motor. looks like a good car from the pictures. it's your decision what to pay,but if everything checks out, i would try to stay at 10K or less.

Welcome aboard from a fellow Canuk. Check the condition of the trunk extensions, floors and stub frame. The 93000 kilometres is likely miles so you may be close to a rebuild. The interior is kind toasted and you can't tell from the pics if the dash pad is cracked. With the interior and possible mechanical work makes the asking price pretty steep. The car could benefit from road wheels.

I love that my Imperial is nicely optioned and has no ac. Although you wouldn't know it by the Airtemp decal in the back glass.

From what I see in the pictures it's looks like a pretty solid looking car, It's gonna need a few things down the road but seems like a great starting point as a driver to start out with. I would say it's a good deal if you got it for under ten grand in my opinion maybe closer to nine grand. Just make sure the under belly and floors are not rotted out anywhere or too bad.

I know its something stupid but this is the first newport besides our car that I've seen without the molding running along the top of the fender!! Granted it wasn't ordered with fender turn signals like ours but it confirms my theory that they probably ran out of the fender turn signals for Chryslers so they used the molding from a no fender turn signal car and used the small lights mounted in the middle of the fenders. I would love to see the fender tag of that car too.

I saw that car at Carlisle. I saw the 300 wheel well moldings and that was really all I took the time to look at.

I had talked to a guy at the hotel about it and he said it was pretty decent.

I think he said $8500US could buy the car but I could be wrong.
