Stock alternator and still running points.
I still am mystified by AC electronics. Now is a good time to learn.

Problem: Typical. Low output at low RPM. E.G. headlights dim, etc.
I believe the typical remedy of going to a higher amperage alternator is not the best because the wiring is so old.

A Mickey Mouse hack would be to overdrive the alternator. Not good.

Anything I can do with the alternator a/o V.R. to increase output at low RPM?

Probably not what you're looking for but a new " updated" voltage regulator keeps my lights from dimming at low RPMs

Sounds like what I AM looking for...
So just a new VR, huh? That's something I should do regardless.

I know you probably checked, but make sure belt is good and tight.

Ok I was reading on the b body forum when I looked up the part someone said they had it burn up and a wire under the dash. Not questioning you but that's why I asked.

They probably hooked it up wrong or their wiring was bad.

We could find a way to make it hard... and with that, cost a lot more money that you don't need to spend. If that's what you want......
No. Easy is good.
I suck at AC electrical stuff. I don't know how you cram all that info into your head.

I have a big head....

I grew up around this stuff. My Dad was a genius at this stuff and my uncle rebuilt Mopar alternators and starters in the back of his shop for a living.

You got that alternators make AC rather than DC. That's much more than most.
