And always remember - Memorial Day is to recognize and remember the DECEASED veteran. Veteran's Day is to recognize the LIVING veteran. Two different days, two separate reasons.
I've always thought wishing someone a "Happy" Memorial Day was inappropriate. Not looking to start a pissing contest, just stating a fact.
To my dad who served in Europe during WWII in the US Army Signal Corps. Then served in Japan during the Korean War in the US Air Force. Then served one year in Viet Nam in the USAF before he retired in 1970. He passed in in 1985!
My other passion is vintage toy trains. The owner of a local manufacturer dedicates a great tribute on his site each year at Memorial Day. It's only up for the weekend, so I appologize to those of you that might click the link tomorrow:
Indeed, hard to say Happy Memorial Day when one thinks of the thousands laying dead at Gettysburg for the first memorial, but happy are we for all of the sacrifices throughout the generations that made us, and keep us, free.
