Interesting how Ma Mopar was in the habit of changing things up between divisions ... just because. I'm pretty sure the commando v8 call out was not available on 68 Dodges. My Monaco came with a 383 4 barrel call out from the factory.

No Dodge had a "Commando V8" designation. That was reserved for Plymouth only. Dodge used "Ramcharger" for the same application, Chrysler, "TNT"

I thought Dodge was "Magnum"....

In 68, the C body 440 HP was called the Magnum, (and later the 383 335 HP in the Super Bee) but Dodge really didn't have snappy names for their engines like Plymouth (Commando, Super Command) did.

I am going to go with Stan on this one...

Dodge DID use MAGNUM...
Check the sales brochures ....

Chrysler was TNT..............

I haven't seen a "magnum v8" emblem on a 68 Polara or Monaco either. Just a 383 or 440 4 barrel emblem. My guess is Dodge and Plymouth likely had different marketing teams.

I am going to go with 69CoronetRT on this one if we are talking about the Polara & Monaco. Only the 440HP was called the "Magnum". The highest horsepower 383 available had 330 horsepower and did not have the "Magnum" pie tin.

It looks like to me, Dodge, for the Polara and Monaco, only used the term Magnum for the 440 HP.
And if you look closely at the air cleaner on that 440, there is a pie tin.
What it says, I don't know.

All the 68 Monaco/Polara literature I have refers to 383 and 440 Magnum engines. I'm pretty sure all C Body duel snorkel air cleaners were plain black from the factory and a different shape from those on B Bodies in 68.

Stan, I'm a little disappointed you didn't jump on the 'HP' reference.

Dodge used the magnum designation starting in 1967 for 383 and 440 hp.. Plymouth used commando and super commando

Incorrect sir. The first use of the nomenclature "Magnum" by Dodge and "Commado" by Plymouth was in 1959.

Over 3,000,000 B 383 engines were produced between 1959 and 1971.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] Dodge's version, the D500 had a cross-ram induction manifold and dual 4-barrel carburetors as options. In some Dodge applications, this engine was labeled as theMagnum, while the Plymouth's version was called the Golden Commando. Both came with a dual point distributor in high performance versions.

The Magnum moniker for 59 was new for me. Can't remember that seeing in print, the Commando term was known.

That quote came from Wiki, so......
I'll accept info from you over Wiki any day.
Dodges were RamFire I think.

FWIW...going through the 63-67 Dodge data books, the first reference I can find to the term "Magnum" and Dodge engines is the '67 440 HP engine.
The 65 Hemi was called "Hemi Charger"
The 426 Max Wedge was called the "Ram Charger".
