I have a buddy who came across an old dealership "Mopar Service Special" sign board earlier this spring. He cleaned it up and used it as a car show display for his Charger. Well, I saw it and flipped out!!! I told him that I am sorry, but I have to find one and use it for this purpose as well! He said "go for it" - So I did! I am now in the process of fabricating a collapsing fold out frame (think sidewalk sandwich board) = so it can stand up on its own at a show - and in the off season I can still hang it in the mancave!!

Here is a photo of Matt's sign in front of his amazing 70 Charger

I detest story boards. Sorry, but it's the way I feel. I see them as something else.
I'd rather deal with the "nice Lincoln".

Funny you should feel that way Stan. A well done story board helps the average person understand something about what they are looking at, and helps to avoid all the really dumb questions, like "is that a Chevrolet or a Pontiac".

A small, simple informational poster like yours is an excellent way to do it.
No problem there.

I have never displayed a story board, but I like the fact that this thing is a vintage dealership marquee = And, I really liked the way that my friend Matt re-purposed it! It is quite large - so it will most likely just stay in the garage.

Is Diner's Club still in business?
Yes they are. Diners Club - Diners Club International: United States Home Page It seems they may have taken over Carte Blanche at some point as well.

This is a unique sign because if I remember correctly, BankAmericard and MasterCharge changed names within a few years of each other to Visa and MasterCard. Mid 70's I think.

BTW, I love the sign, I think you should continue with your plan, that would look great in front of you're car at a show.

Stan: I agree regarding the "story board" here. However, a few years ago, there was an informal "bike show" here at work. The big prize was a $50 Visa gift card. I believe the story board i used was the reason I won. My old bike beat out a brand new fully customized, over the top touring bike that had a story board similar to the one you posted. Here is the text of story board I used:

1965 Harley Davidson

Electra Glide Police Special

The year 1965 marked the first time Harley Davidson offered a motorcycle with electric start. All Harleys produced before that year were kick-start only.

The name ‘Electra-Glide’ was coined by Harley to denote the new electric start feature, as it was applied to the ‘Duo-Glide’ swing-arm frame originally offered in 1958. Prior to 1958, all big twin Harley Davidsons were rigid frame “hard tail” motorcycles.

This bike was restored in the mid-nineties. It has been totally re-wired, torn down to the bare frame and re-assembled. The engine was rebuilt by Charlie Walton in Chesnut Level, PA; the tanks and fenders, etc. were custom painted with clear-coat “Police Silver” by Master Crafters in Rockville, MD.

It is thought (but not yet confirmed) that this particular motorcycle was originally used by the city of Richmond, Virginia Police Department, because the bike was formerly owned by a Richmond resident.

Maybe my attitude towards story boards has a smattering of sour grapes in it.
I'm uncomfortable with attention so I park next to Will's cars. :p

I'm not a big story board fan either, but this service sign is different enough to be cool.

I've thought about having a "FAQ" listing on a small sign for my car. When I'm away or talking to someone else and Mrs. Big John is sitting there, they always ask her stuff that she doesn't know off the top of her head.
