i want to keep my factory am/fm radio, however it would be nice to have a cd player or ipod hook up thats kinda hidden.

what solutions have you came up with?

I expect an fm modulator that connects to the back where the antenna goes would work for an Ipod. not looking to spend big bucks to have the stock radio rebuilt into a teloportation device or anything. just a simple was to get sound outta all the factory speakers without removing the radio or adding some extra cd player.

Check out Detmatt's thread about his 67 Imperial. He had the stock radio "modernized".

The 68 Monaco that I just bought here has the same mod & it is awesome. Just plug in the iPhone & you're jamming but the dash is completely unchanged. I was gonna do a modern unit in my 67 Polara but after driving the Monaco I'm now sure that I'll just do the mod.

But it's not very cheap. I have every bit as much Into modernizing an original radio as I would have if I bought an aftermarket piece. I'm glad I did it though, I would hate to see some new piece of equipment in any of my cars.

You could actually put the jack in yourself if you know a little bit about radios. I recapped my old F100 radio and while in there added an auxiliary input for an Ipod. Now I just slip my hand up and plug in the jack. Of course the radio, on an F100 dash, is very easy to reach from below.

thats my kinda option. i'll look into that one as well..

i need to start working on these projects verses adding them to my list. heck i still need brakes so i can drive it!

Any one of those sound like good, low cost alternatives to converting the entire radio over. I know the cost of the modern unit that goes inside the old radio is around $250.

Here ya go:

I have three of these (similar, but different manufacturer), and they work great. You just hafta find a completely blank FM frequency, plug the device into your cigarette lighter socket and tune to that frequency. These things are so cheap, I was worried about the quality, but I was very pleased.

If you don't like this one, you can search Amazon (seems like there are hundreds available).

I bought a JBL "Charge" blue tooth speaker to get some "modern" sounds in my wagon. It has the original AM radio which seems to work well but we have very few AM stations left here in New Zealand . I sit it up on dash when cruising and run the music from my iphone. Has a 12 hour battery so there's no cables and you can take it out and enjoy music at your destination if you want to. fits in the glove box when I'm not in the car and can plug the phone into it and charge the phone if it's getting low (will charge two phones from flat).

I was thinking of doing that. but im not sold on anything yet. it has a factory am/fm radio. and it works! just need to rewire the antenna. think i'll get a interior window mount one to keep it looking clean. and its cheaper than a factory replacement.

tho i do want my switch to work to raise and lower the antenna. idk. got bigger things to worry about ATM.

thanks for the thoughts everyone!

I have done the Bluetooth/IPod combo in my Challenger and it does work well. The Bose unit sounds great too.

I did the modern conversion on my stock AM/FM in my '65 300. It includes all new modern circuitry as well as outs for MP3 player and CD Changer.

I have one of these units connected to the AM radio in my '64 GTO: http://rediscoveradio.com. The nice thing about this unit is it is totally concealed and you don't have to cut into any factory wiring. This is a great option if you don't want to take the plunge of converting.
