This was taken in the Spring of 2007. I had bought the '79 New Yorker locally about a year prior, and found it for a grand! A 97K mile '79 New Yorker, pretty loaded, 360, and leather. Everything worked well on it. Then I found the '78 in an ebay auction in February 2007. The '79 had always been a local OKC car, but the '78 was a northwestern Iowa car all its life. The '78 Salon was a twin to my late father-in-law's '78, which my wife loved! My mother-in-law trade his Chrysler off in 1991 on a new '91 Dakota, to which they gave her a whopping $300 in trade! My wife was pissed when her mom did that, especially since we were stationed in Germany at that time and could do zip about it! So, I bought the '78 and gave it to my wife as a Valentine's Day present. We still have the '78. I sold the '79 in the fall of 2007. The buyer flew to OKC and had a pleasant trip back to eastern Indiana in his new '79 New Yorker!

Anyway, this was taken in March 2007, before I had got the '78 tagged and titled. Who says these won't fit in a garage???

The '79 looks like a twin to mine and the '78 is close but mine is a St Regis Coupe. I enjoy both of them (plus the other ones)100_0250_resized.jpg100_0115_resized.jpg

Very nice pair!

Great pic. It shows well what a huge change the 79 Chryslers were compared to the last of the C bodies.

Nice pic. Those cars look like they belong. Do you regret selling the 79?

Sometimes, especially considering how little money I had in it to start with. Ran great! The PO put a set of true duals on it with a set of old-style turbo mufflers, so it had a great tone to it. The brakes had just been done, as well. The interior had a couple of small issues, mostly the interior trim around the left rear door. And the air conditioning was icy-cold with the original R12 Freon in it!

And, yes, I did get the "Nice Lincoln!" comments with BOTH cars! Goofy blind folks, I swear! LOL!

I always consider the 79's "downsized".
This picture makes me reconsider my definition of "downsized".
Hard to see the "downsizing" from this angle.

There actually is a pretty substantial difference in the two, dimensionally. The '79 is eight inches shorter in length overall, three inches narrower, one inch shorter in height, nearly 800 pounds lighter, and had only a 360 available for power. Other than the rearview mirror, radio, lightbulbs, a few switches, and the wheelcovers, there is near-zero commonality between the two cars.

I was working for a Chrysler-Plymouth-FIAT dealership in late 1978 when the '78s were on the way out and the '79s were being delivered. I remember seeing my first '79 New Yorker Fifth Avenue, which in '79 was available only in that beautiful cream and light gold combinatoin. As a part-time college student then, I was NOT the demographic this car was aimed at, but damn, did I want one! I remember the window sticker read $13,333.66. Holy crap! That's equal to roughly $45K in 2014 money! I wanted one sooooo bad! That, and the '79 Chrysler 300 just jumped out at me as the cars to own at that time.

I saw pics of the 79's in late '77.
I cried.
My father went to a K-car and thought it was a step up.

Here is the '79 with my '66 Coronet 500. I have owned the 500 now for nearly 34 years, and am the second owner.

Stan, inside that shop in the background. It is 36' x 68', with a 12' x 24' carport/patio. Full bath. No heat or air yet. Working on getting a two-post lift next.

WOW. I totally envy you!
What's the shop's primary function? Business, I assume.

Nope, just a place to put my cars and stuff. It's on the footprint of my old house and shop, which were destroyed in a tornado nearly 11 years ago.
