Hello all.....was just wondering if anyone could identify these wires (1978 Fury 4D). One of the wires is lightblue twisted with black and other is brown with twisted yellow. I've had the car for awhile and they've never been plugged into anything. The wires are found coming from the wiring bundle basically under the wiper motor near the firewall. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks....Craig

Has your car been converted from Lean Burn to electronic ignition?
They may be the extra wires for a dual ballast resistor?
Otherwise the factory is known to install a harness with extra wires if the car was not optioned with the extra goodies.
Makes it easier for the dealer to install any upsell options.
A radio delete car will still have wires for a radio....just an example.

MyMopar wiring diagrams are free on the 'net. They only go up tp '75, except for '79 p-up/ramcharger. Maybe still worth a look??

Lean burn was scrapped years ago....wondering if the lt blue/black wire is for a 2 speed with intermittent wiper set up. That's what kinda started this post, the wipers only work on high. The wiper has a 2 speed set-up without intermittent now, but the wiper motor was replaced years ago. I don't have the broadcast sheet to see what wiper motor the car originally came with. I've tried 3 separate wiper motors and they all only work on high (and don't seat correctly). The lt blue/black wire would be the correct length it seems for an additional plug in for some types of 2 speed/intermittent set-up. And who knows, maybe both wires were for the original lean burn configuration.

The blue with black tracer wire and white single connector is for the dwell switch connection on an intermittent wiper motor. Your wiper motor is a two speed motor without intermittent wipe. Wiper motor number 3799307 as marked on your tag is a two speed non-intermittent wipe motor. This blue with black tracer wire is not connected on this car. The presence of the resistor also indicates two speed only. The connections for an intermittent wipe motor are shown in the following image:

Lack of low speed operation indicates a dash wiper switch position issue, connection/wiring issue, or bad resistor. Check the resistor and its connections first. The resistor is Chrysler part number 2822261. It is similar, but not the same as ignition ballast resistors. The wiper motor torque limiting resistor, 2822261, typically ranges 0.25-0.5 ohms in resistance. It is an open back, ceramic power resistor. The resistor limits current and results in a lower applied voltage to the motor for low speed operation.

The brown with yellow tracer wire with the black keyed connector is from the transmission neutral safety switch and connects to the "G" terminal as shown in the following image.

If the car is starting, the relay connection must be wired in some other way to allow the starter relay to engage.

Could the car originally have come with a 2 speed/intermittent wiper motor?

The intermittent wiper system was optional on the 1978 Fury. Yours appears to not have been so equipped. If it was originally equipped, in addition to the specific wiper motor, a different wiring sub harness with additional connectors would be in place, the underdash wiring is different, the intermittent control module would be present under dash and the dash mounted switch is different with a different bezel for the delay portion:

Reference your owner's manual for the detail about the operation in this section shown.

Additionally, sales code J25 will be on the fender tag.

No J25 fender tag code so I’m guessing equipped with 2 speed when it left the factory.
