Nice car! The codes for the pre-'69 cars are sometimes different than for the later cars, by observation. Which might explain why things aren't working as desired?

The VIN is easy.
8=Chrysler
2=300
4=64
3=Jefferson Plant in Detroit

The rest is the number of the car.

The fender tag is a little harder... Let me see if I can find a good decoder.

Yes. I saw that too. We'll keep looking. It could mean 'Standard Engine' - which is probably a 383 for your car.

Top Line: restatement of SO NUMBER and BDY on the bottom line 32 is an inspection stamp

Alphabet Line:
A5 = pushbutton automatic transmission (optional on 300)
B2 = power brakes (optional on 300)
D4 = power windows (optional)
H2 = AM radio front speaker only (optional)
K1 = Air Conditioning (optional)
L7 = Convertible Top White
P4 = Light Package (optional on Newport and 300. P4 only appears on Newport and 300 with light package. Blank on 300K and New Yorker where standard)
Q2 = Tinted Windshield Only (Cars with factory air were suppose to come with all tinted windows, code Q1. Check and see if the side windows are tinted)
S1 = Sill (rocker) moldings
X2 = Heavy Duty Suspension (optional on 300 and 300K only. Includes thicker strut rods, front sway bar, seven leaf rear springs, and 3-inch wide rear brakes)

Bottom Line

SO (Sequence Order) Number = scheduled date of assembly / production line and line position
0624 = 06/24/1964 or June 24, 1964 scheduled date of assembly (target date, but not necessarily the actual date)
1073 = production line 1, position 73, or 73rd car for that date on that line

BDY = Body Type: 8 = Chrysler (make); 2 = 300 (model); 5 = convertible (body style)

TRM = Interior Trim: M = 300 (mid priced model); 4 = vinyl (upholstery material); B = blue (color)

PNT = exterior paint color: E = Monarch Blue Metallic (dark metallic blue); EE = monochrome paint of designated color

VIN: 8243275359
8 = Chrysler (make) - The first two numbers of the VIN match the first two numbers of the BDY
2 = 300 (model)
4 = 1964 (model year)
3 = Jefferson Street, Detroit (assembly plant)
275359 = sequence number of the car. Since the first car ordered at this assembly plant was numbered 100001, this car is number 175359 to be ordered from this assembly plant in 1964. The Jefferson Street plant built all Imperials, Chryslers, and full size Dodge 880's. Note that the cars were NOT built in sequential order based on VIN. VIN numbers were assigned sequentially to car orders as the order data was entered into the computer.
