How does one bench test a neutral safety switch that screws in to the Trans.on a '66 Chrysler? I tried a continuity test and got nothing.
Switch tested with the button in and out on the bottom of switch.I had three switches test the same way. Are they all bad? The P/N is 2889472.Just in case someone has one. This is the single prong type swt. Thanks

I think it has to be grounded. mine had a nylon button so I assumed the connection was made between the pin and the casing, like a temp switch. After random no starts and checking all the wires I bought one on ebay and put it in and havent had trouble since.

I'm going from memory here... So I may be wrong.

Seems to me that there has to be continuity between the wire post and the little center "button" that rubs on the "rooster comb" inside the trans. In other words, it isn't really a switch, it's a movable contact that is spring loaded against the rooster comb on the valve body. It returns ground through that contact with the trans.

So... check continuity between the screw post and the little brass contact in both open and closed.

This is the contact.

It contacts the two fingers and returns ground through the fingers.
